That’s a blue copper, by the way

Here’s an update on that luscious blue butterfly pictured in my previous post on butterflies at Snow Mountain, now that David James, Associate Professor of Entomology at Washington State University, Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser, has had a chance to identify it from my photograph.

This butterfly is a blue copper, says James, and it’s not very common anywhere. Snow Mountain Ranch is the only place he knows of near Yakima where it can be seen at all, James said, adding in an email, “so it’s pretty special.”
