Surprise! Seattleites like cyclists

Have you ever read the comments on any online news story where a cyclist is involved? You could easily think that anyone riding a bike is Seattle’s public enemy No. 1.

Well hold onto your hats, folks, because this may come as a shock: A new survey reveals that 78 percent of people in the city of Seattle have a favorable opinion of cyclists.  The survey, conducted in December by the polling firm Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates for the Cascade Bicycle Club, asked 400 Seattle voters about their attitudes toward cyclists and policies to improve bike infrastructure.   You can see some of the results from that survey in the chart (click to enlarge).  Not only do the majority of Seattle voters support pro-bicycle transportation policies, they also don’t believe that there is a “war on cars” being waged in Seattle.

How about that?  It almost makes you wonder if the people who comment on news stories don’t reflect the majority of public opinion.
