Huge increases in health exchange queries

The customer-support call center of the Washington Healthplanfinder has seen a huge in crease in calls the past several days,” said Bethany Frye, spokeswoman for the exchange. Specifically, the call center received approximately 20,000 calls on Friday. By 1 p.m. today, deadline day for insurance-plan signups, the call center had already received 4,300 calls.

“If people need help today and can’t get through to the call center, we’re pushing them to the various enrollment events in King County to ensure they get assistance,” said Frye. “That is the best message for consumers who waited until the last minute and are looking for resources today.”

The website has also been experiencing a high volume of visits. It was not, however, the high volume that was responsible for an outage of about 15 minuts at 11:30 this morning. Frye said she didn’t yet have details on the cause of the outage.

So far, the exchange reports an estimated 140,000 individuals have signed up for private plans, up from 131,000 as of last Wednesday.
