When Mariner heads to Kamiak for a boys basketball game Thursday, more will be on the line than just district playoff seeding for Mariner and a potential district playoff berth for Kamiak.
From an email sent to The Times:
Mariner High School and Kamiak High School are having their annual “Stinky Shoe” basketball game at Kamiak this Thursday, Feb. 7. This is a school-wide spirit competition for the Mukilteo District two high schools. There are three main activities that determine what school gets the Stinky Shoe trophy. The first thing is selling spirit links for 10 cents. The school that raises the most money and has the most links, wins that particular event.
Mariner High School decided to give all funds to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Organization. Students in Mariner look for ways to help the community and focus on people less fortunate.
The Stinky Shoe competition has two other main events that take place within Kamiak during the game. The first is a cheer dance or routine and the second is a musical competition. The stands are always full during the game, cheering and hoping that their school will take home the Shoe. Since Mariner and Kamiak are district rivals, this is one of the most important games of the season and many people will be there “decked out” in their school colors.
If you’re in the Mukilteo area Thursday, check it out. What’s better than basketball? Basketball that supports a good cause.
