Wrestling update

This from our correspondent Barry Pump at the Tacoma Dome:

With 25 1/2 points, East Valley of Spokane has a two-point lead over top-rated Enumclaw and No. 2 Auburn in Class 3A, as the opening bouts of the 20th Mat Classic completed at the Tacoma Dome Friday afternoon.

But in Class 3A, the top 10 is tightly bunched. Sunnyside has 19 points, defending champion Sedro-Woolley have 17.5 for fifth place, and Eastmont has 17 for sixth.

Both the Hornets and the Trojans have advanced seven wrestlers in the championship bracket. Sedro-Woolley and Kelso have moved five on apiece.

There were few upsets in the early rounds in 3A. The Nos. 1 and 2 wrestlers from each weight division advanced. One of the closest matches was at 215, where second-ranked Erik Magnussen of Eastmont edged out a 3-2 win over unrated Colby Grobschmit of Sedro-Woolley.
