Girls team to beat?

Blog-Daddy Tom told you last week that Rainier Beach is the team to beat in the 3A boys state tournament.

For the girls? Well, two defending champs will likely be the favorites to be defending champs this time next year, too. In Class 4A, Lewis & Clark of Spokane is undefeated and the top-ranked team. In 3A, Auburn Riverside has emerged as the team to beat again.

But in 4A, keep an eye on star guard Ashley Corral and Prairie (suburban Vancouver). Then there’s the WesCo squads — Lake Stevens and Jackson — which will square off Saturday for the NW 4A district title. The winner of that game could be a force at state.

At the 3A level, undefeated Lakes could be Riverside’s biggest threat. The third-ranked 3A team, Kennedy, lost by 15 to Riverside over the weekend.

The 4A state tournament starts in eight days. Who’s excited?!

Tonight’s top games

1. Kentridge vs. Lincoln, 8 p.m., boys basketball, at Puyallup HS. Fifth-ranked Chargers take on Tacoma’s sixth-ranked Lincoln in a West-Central district showdown.

2. Kentwood vs. Curtis, 6 p.m., boys basketball, at Mount Tahoma HS. Ninth-ranked Conks take on SPSL South champion Curtis in a West-Central district game. If you haven’t gotten the idea yet, go watch that tournament! Great teams in the SPSL and Narrows League.

3. Newport vs. Bainbridge, 6:30 p.m., girls basketball, at Ingraham HS. Should be a good game in the Sea-King 3A district tournament.
