Athletes of the year?

With the final season upon us, it’s time to look at candidates for our prep athletes of the year. With thousands of tremendous local athletes, this is no easy feat.

Here are some of the criteria: must be a Seattle-area athlete (sorry Kavario Middleton, Brittney Quick and Jared Karstetter) and must excel at two or three sports throughout the year (explains why Spencer Hawes wasn’t considered).

Certain male athletes that come to mind: O’Dea Johri Fogerson (state football POY, All-Metro third-team basketball), Brandon Turner of Kentridge (Star Times football, SPSL North second-team basketball) or how about Meadowdale’s Matt Gorman (WesCo South first-team basketball, Division I baseball recruit).

How about these female candidates: Kristi Kingma of Jackson (Star Times soccer and basketball, last year’s winner) or Kentwood’s Jessie Genger (Star Times volleyball, SPSL North first-team basketball).

Now I know I probably missed some obvious and deserving candidates. Let ’em fly in the comments!
