White Center’s Steve Cox Memorial Field Among State’s Best

As we told you last week, Seattle Prep’s new field is now open.

And it’s a beauty!

Gorgeous field turf, covered bleachers and nice outfield fence highlight the renovations to the new field, dedicated to King County deputy Steve Cox who was killed in 2006.

Prior to the opening game, there was a ceremony with speeches and tributes. Cox’s 21/2-year-old son threw out the first pitch.

Eastside Catholic beat Seattle Prep 9-6, but that’s besides the point. The once shoddy field is now among the best in the state. If you get the chance, make the short drive to White Center to catch some quality high school baseball in a fantastic new park.

Morning Stars

1. Chris Viltz, Lake Washington, baseball. The junior outfielder went 4-4 with two homers and six RBIs in a 16-6 win over Roosevelt.

2. Andy Bethel, Seattle Prep, baseball. The UW-bound senior went 3-3 with a homerun and five RBIs in an 11-1 win over Bainbridge.

3. Kori Seidlitz, Mountlake Terrace, softball. The junior hurler pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout and had 18 strikeouts in Terrace’s 8-0 win over Edmonds-Woodway.
