Most Useful Baseball/Fastpitch Stat

This one’s for you stat junkies and baseball/fastpitch buffs out there: in your opinion, what is the most useful stat to indicate how valuable a hitter or pitcher is to a team?

In fastpitch, a pitchers’ strikeouts must be highly considered, as a dominant pitcher can essentially win a game with her arm. In baseball, this isn’t quite as apparent, but still important, right?

On offense, is it batting average, on-base percentage, RBIs? Also, one must consider situational hitting. While a player might not have gone 5-5 with four RBIs and three home runs, he might go 2-4, but both hits were bases-clearing, two-out doubles.

Voice your opinion in the comments.

Morning stars:

1. Melissa Becker, Graham-Kapowsin, softball. Went 2-3 with five RBIs and a triple in a 14-3 win over Spanaway Lake.

2. Farleigh Winters, Holy Names, softball. The junior threw a complete game, one-hit shutout in 2-0 win over Bishop Blanchet.

3. Stephanie Fox, Eastlake, softball. The senior Western Washington recruit threw a complete game and gave up no earned runs in a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Lake Washington. She also was 3-3 at the plate.
