This one’s for you stat junkies and baseball/fastpitch buffs out there: in your opinion, what is the most useful stat to indicate how valuable a hitter or pitcher is to a team?
In fastpitch, a pitchers’ strikeouts must be highly considered, as a dominant pitcher can essentially win a game with her arm. In baseball, this isn’t quite as apparent, but still important, right?
On offense, is it batting average, on-base percentage, RBIs? Also, one must consider situational hitting. While a player might not have gone 5-5 with four RBIs and three home runs, he might go 2-4, but both hits were bases-clearing, two-out doubles.
