State soccer update

Camas 1, Lakeside 0

The Papermakers finally broke through in the 72nd minute when a low cross by senior Steven Bunker was deflected into the net by a Lakeside defender.

Camas (18-1-1) boasted most of the scoring chances throughout the game, especially UW recruit and Gatorade State Player of the Year Brent Richards.

Lakeside (12-3-4) stayed in the game thanks to an excellent effort by All-Metro first team goalkeeper Johnny Krueger.

Kennedy 3, Mercer Island 2 (OT, Kennedy wins shootout 4-1)

Over at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood we just finished a wild one.

Kennedy (16-4-0) came back from a 2-0 second-half deficit to tie the game, then beat Mercer Island (13-4-2) 4-1 in a shootout to advance to the Class 3A state championship.

All the goals came in the second half.

More to come later.
