Softball finalists set

The pairings are set for the 4A and 3A fastpitch champships here at the SERA softball complex in Tacoma.

In 4A, Redmond’s ride came to an end against Shadle Park, the defending champion. Oregon-bound Sam Skillingstad tossed a no-hitter in the 6-0 victory, striking out 16 to give her 49 Ks in three games here and 1,349 for her career. Redmond still has a chance to come back and play for the third- and fourth-place trophy.

Eastlake’s title hopes are still alive after a 4-0 victory over Rogers of Puyallup. Eastlake plays Shadle in the title game at 2:30 p.m.

In 3A, Everett had defending-champ Kennedy on the ropes, leading 1-0 in the top of the seventh. But Karli Merlich stroked a lead-off double and Lindsy Dugan followed with a two-run homer over the centerfield fence. The Lancers added three more runs for a 5-1 lead. Everett rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning, but Merlich slammed the door with her 15th strikeout of the game. Both Everett runs were unearned. Everett pitcher Cory Mattson struck out 10. The Seagulls need one more win to earn a trophy.

Kennedy will play unbeaten Timberline in the 3A final at 2:30. Timberline topped Bonney Lake in the other semifinal, 6-2.
