Kentwood volleyball nationally ranked

The Conqs, who finished third at state last year, come in at No. 57 according to a preseason top 100 poll by PrepVolleyball.com. Here’s the short write-up provided:

Last year’s record: 34-1; 2007 final ranking: 50.

The Conquerors are full of seniors that, as sophomores and juniors, compiled a 67-2 record. Jessie Genger (MB/OH), Lauren Campbell (OH), Stephanie Shumaker (S), Rianna Venn (MB), and Katie Grajewski (DS) are the veterans returnees who have been stymied by Mead the past two years but may have an opportunity this year with the four-time defending champion Panthers returning only one (albeit great and great big) starter.

They will have to replace senior Savannah Feist, who plays for Bellevue Community College and I mention only because she has the one relevant YouTube video I could find (which I’ve embedded below).

No other Washington teams made the top 100, but a number these were listed as ‘on the bubble’: Eastside Catholic, Emerald Ridge of Puyallup, Fife, Lewis & Clark of Spokane, Mead of Spokane, Monroe, Rogers of Puyallup and Seattle Prep.

So volleyball fans, did they get it right? Kinda right? Horribly wrong?
