Bethel football coach Gavin Kralik is also an author, and in a new book, he has taken a look at 12 of the most dominant football dynasties in the country, and what makes them so successful. There are no Washington teams in the book, though there is a picture of Bellevue playing against California’s De La Salle. He takes a look at these teams:
Carroll (Texas) Dragons: four-time state champions, two-time national champs this decade
Katy (Texas) Tigers: two-time state champion and nine-time quarterfinalist in the past 10 years
Jenks (Okla.) Trojans: nine state championships in the last 12 years
Colerain (Ohio) Cardinals: 97-9 in the past 10 years
Evangel Christian (La.) Eagles: seven state championships in the past 10 years
Lowndes (Ga.) Vikings: Won three of past four state championships
Central Catholic (Pa.) Vikings: 53-4 with two state championships in the past four years
Independence (N.C.) Patriots: Won six consecutive state championiships this decade
Miami Northwestern (Fla.) Bulls: On a 30-game winnings streak; won last two state championships
Lakeland (Fla.) Dreadnaughts: 55-2 in the past four years, with three state champsionships
De La Salle (Calif.) Spartans: Five national championships in the past 10 year
South Panola (Miss.) Tigers: On a 75-game winning streak
On the book’s Web site, you can see a lot of interesting details about each school and photos. And he’s got another book with new dynasties coming out next year, the site says.
What dynasties could he pick in Washington? The first team that comes to mind isn’t a football team, it’s Mead’s volleyball team. Mead’s won the past five titles and six of the last nine. But in football, Bellevue obviously fits the profile, having won five of the last seven Class 3A titles and, at one point, four titles in a row. And Skyline has won three titles in the last eight seasons. In 1A, Royal has won three of the last four titles.
1. Alexa Hughes, Archbishop Murphy, girls soccer. Got the shutout in a 2-0 win against Holy Names.
2. Allie Crowe, Jefferson, volleyball. Had 33 assists, seven aces and three digs in a win against White River.
3. Hillary Zevenbergen, King’s, girls soccer. Had a pair of goals in a 5-2 win against Kingston.
