Girls state soccer rankings: week 2

Here we go again. Fortunately the ranked teams did me a service last week, by winning most of their games. Which should keep things pretty similar this week.

As always, shoot me an email or a comment with your thoughts. The more input the better. Keeping up, or trying to keep up, with hundreds of teams over hundreds of square miles isn’t as easy as it seems.

That said, here are some thoughts before the rankings:

— We’ll start in Class 4A, Woodinville’s loss to Sammamish drops them out of the rankings. That’s the only change in the top five, as the others teams, for the most part, took care of business.

— Bellarmine is not punished for a non-league tie with Lakeside, ranked third in Class 3A. Issaquah’s tie with Seattle Prep is canceled out by a big win over Tualatin, a decorated team from Oregon.

— Stadium moves up to No. 5 and Mead of Spokane leap-frogs a couple teams based on more impressive results. It’s an inexact science to be sure. Snohomish, Auburn Riverside and Lake Stevens all had workmanlike wins to stay in the top 10.

— The only new ranked team is Gonzaga Prep over in Spokane. With a 12-0 scoring margin in shutout wins over Kamiakin, Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls and Sandpoint has the Bullpups in the top ten.

— Along with the teams on the bubble, you could include in Kentwood. Though the Conqs have only played one game, so we’ll wait and see a little with them.

— On to 3A, where again the top stays relatively unchanged. Lindbergh jumps up to five, replacing league rival Kennedy after racking up a couple big wins. The Lancers are almost unfairly punished for not playing a game yet (the win is due to Tyee’s forfeit), but that’s how it goes with one voter.

— West Valley jumps up a little bit with impressive wins over Davis (8-0) and Enumclaw (3-1).

— Welcome Shorecrest and Union of Camas into the top 10. Shorecrest has two big wins over 4A schools and the Titans have had a flawless start to the season down south.

— Ferndale and Bellevue are the out of the top 10. The Wolverines are still looking for the season’s first win, but stay in the mix with a tough non-league schedule. The Golden Eagles up north got blown out by Sehome, so they’re gone for a while.

Here we are, take a look and tell me where I messed up!
