Girls state soccer rankings — week 3

It was a crazy week of girls soccer. Neither top-ranked team had a perfect week so we have two brand-new No. 1s this week.

In the 4A world, Eastlake lost a 1-0 bout with Woodinville and Issaquah lost 1-0 to Skyline. The two ranked and defending state champions lost to unranked teams in their league, another testament to a loaded KingCo 4A Conference. A couple breaks throughout the season — even this early — could drastically alter how the postseason looks.

Beamer with a couple huge wins over the week take the top spot. The Narrows and GSL teams had good weeks and having four teams in the top six reflects that. Woodinville jumps back into the rankings — and the Falcons loss to Sammamish is looking better every day as the Totems keep winning. Despite the loss, I think Eastlake still has the credentials and a better resume to stay ranked above Woodinville (flawed opinion? maybe).

Lake Stevens had a big win over Snohomish to supplant the Panthers as the top-ranked WesCo team and Kentwood with a couple big wins replaces Auburn Riverside — who tied Kentridge 0-0 in a poor result — as the SPSL representative. Skyline plays its way into the top ten with the Issaquah win.

Now to the 3A ranks. Everett tied Marysville-Pilchuck, which isn’t a horrible results, but enough to slide the Seahawks to third. Camas takes the No. 1 spot despite a tie last week also, but the Papermakers tied the defending league champs in Heritage, which is a slight tiebreaker.

Lakeside with a couple shutout wins jumps up to No. 2. The Lions haven’t allowed a goal all season despite playing strong teams in Issaquah and Bellarmine Prep. Mount Spokane and a couple Seamount powers still have unblemished — though untested — records. The Rams of West Valley lost 3-1 to Pasco, which isn’t a horrible result to a good 4A team. Union, Sammamish (which has really played well to start the year) and Shorecrest round out the top 10.

Again, there are good teams in both classifications on the bubble. But I only like to list a few so not to dilute to rest of the rankings.

Let the debating begin. And as always, let me know if you think I’ve missed something.
