Biggest Early-Season Football Surprises

As we enter Week 5 of the high school football season, we’re at that midpoint where some of those surprise teams are no longer just media darlings but are legit playoff threats; where those off to slow starts might start to get nervous; where All-Area players are starting to emerge.

Through four weeks of football, what are some of the biggest surprises:

As far as teams go:

Marysville-Pilchuck, 4-0.

West Seattle, 4-0.

Issaquah, 4-0

Edmonds-Woodway, 2-2.

Oak Harbor, 2-2.

Bothell, 2-2.

Probably plenty more out there, as well as some surprising individuals.

Your biggest first-half surprises in the comments, please.

Morning Stars:

1. Colin Schifferman and Jed Dalton, Bishop Blanchet, boys golf. Schifferman shot a 2-under 34 and Dalton shot a 1-under 35 at Jefferson Park as Blanchet beat Nathan Hale 142 points to 96.

2. Emily Kujiper and Lani Beadle, Seattle Prep, volleyball. Kujiper and Beadle piled up 42 assists and 31 digs, respectively, in a losing effort as Eastside Catholic won the five-game match, 3-2.

3. Laycee Hill, Lynnwood, volleyball. Had 38 assists in a 3-1 win over Lake Stevens.
