Thursday’s morning stars

1. Aiden Irish, Redmond, boys cross country. Ran the 5K in 16:23, the top time in a four-team meet. He finished 20th last year in what was a very deep Class 4A state race, and look for him to be a contender in Pasco this year.

2. Marina Vaughn, Tiana Ellison and Carli Sowder, Hazen, girls soccer. A hat trick of hat tricks. Each of these gilrs scored three goals in an 11-1 win against Evergreen.

3. Charlie Kern, Mercer Island, boys golf. Shot a 2-under 34 at Twin Rivers that helped 7-1 Mercer Island beat Ballard.

Tonight’s big game

Skyline at Bothell, volleyball, 7 p.m. The Spartans have gotten off to a 5-0 start in KingCo 4A. Bothell had been undefeated until it lost a five-set match to Eastlake on Tuesday. With Issaquah also undefeated, neither team wants to fall behind with a loss.
