Girls state soccer rankings — week 6

It was a wild week of soccer, none of the top three teams in the 4A ranks had a perfect week (Beamer tied, Mead and Stadium lost) and the top-ranked 3A lost.

Let’s go through some of the reasoning, starting atop Class 4A. I still have Beamer on top over Eastlake and Kentwood. A tie to the league’s second-place team on the road isn’t enough to drop the Titans I feel. The Wolves have a big game coming up against Issaquah though, and a win would probably be enough to take that top spot.

A flawless Kentwood is harder to judge, as 5 of the last 6 wins for the Conqs have been 1-0 or 2-0 scores. Bellarmine Prep moves up to No. 4 after beating Stadium. Mead drops after losing to a pretty good Mount Spokane team. Lewis and Clark jumps into the party after beating Gonzaga Prep and Lake Stevens, Southridge and Woodinville all stay in.

In the 3A, Camas lost 2-0 to Columbia River which shook things up quite a bit. Now three GSHL teams are ranked with Union (No. 5), Columbia River (No. 7) and Camas (No. 8). Lakeside takes the top spot and probably had the resume to be there earlier. The only blemish, if you can call it that, on the Lions schedule is a 0-0 tie with Bellarmine Prep earlier in the year.

Lakeside has only given up a goal in one game this season. That’s 10 shutouts in 11 games for those counting, including clean sheets against afore mentioned Bellarmine Prep and Issaquah.

Kennedy moves up to No. 2 despite a tie with Mount Rainier, the Lancers had some breathing room between them and the next couple teams in my mind.

WesCo stalwarts Everett and Meadowdale each move up after good weeks. Bonney Lake might be the surprise of the year. The Panthers are the state’s only 10-0-0 team in the big schools, but sadly I don’t know much about them.

Mount Spokane comes back into the mix at No. 9 after beating Mead and Lindbergh rounds out the top 10.

Whew! That was a long-winded post. After such a crazy week there was a lot to talk about.

Again, let me know what you think, since these are just one man’s rankings. Polls usually thrive on multiple viewpoints.
