Thursday Morning Stars

1. Kevin Penner, Eastlake, boys golf. Penner shot a 6-under 66 on the second day of the KingCo 4A golf championships to finish with a 9-under 135 for the two-day tournament. That gave him a five-shot win, with Woodinville’s Jarrett Foote coming in second at 140.

2. Rachel Godfred, Mercer Island, girls swimming. Godfred had the best day, but really, you could have picked basically anyone from either Mercer Island or Bellevue at their dual meet last night. The winner in every swimming event set a state qualifying time. Godfred won the 100 back and the 100 free and also was part of two winning relays.

3. Evan Sadler, Mercer Island, boys cross-country. Sadler ran an impressive 16:18 at Mount Si on a very busy cross-country afternoon. Skyline runners Simon Sorensen and Hailey Hunter set new course records at Liberty in the Issaquah District meet, and Roosevelt’s Andrew Sahl ran a 1625 at Lincoln Park to win a three-team meet.
