State volleyball rankings — week 7

After much deliberation, here are this week’s state volleyball rankings for Class 4A and 3A.

If you’re looking for any newcomers, you won’t find any (although North Kitsap is now on the radar after beating Olympic last week). Nearly every team that lost last week lost to another ranked team. East Valley of Spokane is the exception, falling to unranked Mount Spokane, but the Knights are battling some injuries and I think they will be just fine once they’re healthy. In the meantime, they dropped from No. 4 to No. 9.

So, mostly what you will see is some rearranging in both classifications. One of the toughest decisions was what to do with Edmonds-Woodway, Kamiak and Monroe. You’ll see they wound up 6-7-8. It might not seem fair for Monroe to drop from seventh to eighth without losing a match, but it’s just the way things worked out.

I’m not too crazy about having three teams from one conference in the rankings, to be honest, but all seem deserving (although maybe the SPSL 4A is getting the short end of the stick with only No. 2 Kentwood in the top 10; Puyallup could easily be No. 9 or 10). What do you do when Kamiak beat Monroe, Monroe beat Edmonds-Woodway and E-W beat Kamiak?

I guess it’s that what-have-you-done-for-me-lately attitude. E-W had the big win over Kamiak just last week.

Like I said earlier, we’ll know more after this weekend’s tournament.

At any rate, here they are:

Class 4A
