If you’re looking for something new and exciting in the rankings, you won’t find it this week. Maybe after some postseason tournament action this weekend.
The 4A rankings remain unchanged, in fact. The Monroe tournament only served to solidify some teams’ positions. Sure, No. 8 Monroe finished ahead of No. 7 Kamiak, but they faced different semifinal opponents and both lost 2-0 to Kentwood, which still sits pretty at No. 2.
I took a knife to the “others” categories, though, and hopefully make them a big more meaningful.
The only real shake-up comes in 3A, where No. 6 Auburn Mountainview drops all of the way out after losing to Bonney Lake. I really wanted to keep the Lions in there, but I think Bonney Lake deserves to be ranked — and the Panthers debut at No. 8 this week. If I left Mountainview in, someone else who didn’t lose any match of importance (such as Blanchet, Mercer Island, East Valley of Spokane or Eastside Catholic) would have been pushed out, and that didn’t seem right.
I still think Mountainview will be a trophy contender at state.
So, let’s hear it. Who’s over-ranked, who’s under-rarnked? Final rankings come out next week, so I’m all ears.
