Eastside Catholic looks sharp

Eastside Catholic coaches have been preaching “team of destiny” to their senior-laden team and the players obviously have been listening.

The Crusaders blasted past West Seattle 38-14 Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The suburbanites impressed me with the way they neutralized West Seattle’s speed and took over the game in the second half. West Seattle was held scoreless after intermission.

Mike Bush finished with 3 TDs and 132 yards rushing.

West Seattle was trying to win its first Metro League title since 1961 and will have to wait longer now. EC won Metro its only Metro title in 1993, but the school didn’t open until 1980.

Many found it refreshing that teams other than O’Dea and Rainier Beach were in the title game. O’Dea has just about owned Metro since Monte Kohler arrived in 1985. This is hte first time this decade that the champion is someone other than O’Dea or Beach.
