The latest news and analysis on high-school sports around the Seattle area

Sunday Morning Stars

1. Michael Miller, Mt. Rainier, boys cross-country. Miller turned the West Central 3A tournament into one big contest for second. Miller won the race by almost 20 seconds. He transferred here from Alaska after winning the state titles as a sophomore and junior, and he’ll have his shot at a Washington title next Saturday in the state cross-country meet.

2. Rachel Godfred, Mercer Island, girls swimming. At Saturday’s KingCo championships — featuring the best swimmers from KingCo 3A and 4A — Godfred won the 200 free and helped with the 200 and 400 free relays. Interesting note about Godfred: she has achieved “ironman” status, qualifying for each individual event, all four years at Mercer Island.

3. Lauren Campbell, Kentwood, volleyball. Campbell had 25 kills to help lead the Conquerors to a 3-1 win against Rogers. Is this the year Kentwood breaks through for the 4A title? We’ll see.
