Girls state soccer rankings — week 9

A lot of wild results out there this week. Not sure what to base it on: attrition? fatigue? resting for the playoffs? better competition?

Probably a mix of all as some teams had clinched playoff berths and others began postseason play, so let’s go through a quick rundown.

On top of the 4A teams, Beamer had a rough week. Of course this might be due to them having clinched the division and having nothing to play for. Regardless, a loss and a tie drops the Titans to No. 3 this week. The new No. 1 is a familiar foe in Kentwood. The two teams will meet in the SPSL Championship on Wednesday, should be fun.

Pasco moves up to No. 6 in the rankings after a shootout win over Southridge to win the Big Nine title. That’s 13 wins in a row for the Bulldogs, who started the season 0-3.

KingCo 4A again has three teams ranked. The wild league season over there kept me on my toes, but I felt compelled to rank the two teams at the top (Skyline and Woodinville) as well as a stacked Eastlake team.

Lewis and Clark along with Stadium had a couple playoff losses to fall to the bubble.

On the 3A side, Kennedy stays atop after sneaking by Mount Rainier 2-1 — another great showing by the Rams, who have given the Lancers two tough games.

Meadowdale and Everett each lost games, albeit after clinching their divisions, so their drop is minimal. Despite finishing second in its own league, Bonney Lake is still unbeaten and climbs to No. 4. The league champ, Sumner, has a couple non-league losses and comes in at No. 9.

Let me know what you think, or if I have a team record down wrong. I tried as hard as I could to track down every result across the state, but come playoff time it’s a little harder.
