3A state soccer thread

Shorecrest and Seattle Prep and just kicked off. I’ll try to update you all on the progress as I write my game story.

6th minute, tied 0-0 — The Panthers played the ball right in front of the SC net, but a scramble for the ball eventually leads to a clearance. It was the most dangerous moment so far.

14th minute, tied 0-0 — Back and forth action in this one. The crowds have gotten bigger.

27th minute, tied 0-0 — Locked in a defensive battle here. Looks like a set piece goal or defensive breakdown could be the difference tonight.

32nd minute, Seattle Prep 1-0 — GOAL! Jaclyn Rudd with the goal of the day so far, blasts a 23-yard free kick into the top corner of the net, David Beckham-style. Wow.

Halftime. Seattle Prep 1-0 — I wondered if a set-piece goal would be the difference and I’m looking smart so far. We’ll see if it can hold up.

44th minute, Seattle Prep 1-0 — Jessica Rankin has a close-range shot go over the bar. She’s had a couple chances today but couldn’t get one in.

50th minute, Seattle Prep 1-0 — Seattle Prep’s Cassie Padon is wowing the crowd with flip throw-ins. Pretty impressive.

59th minute, Seattle Prep 1-0 — The Panthers with the lead are controlling most of the action. SC is going to have to change something to create more opportunities if they’re going to find the equalizer.

Final. Seattle Prep 1-0 — Shorecrest had a couple chances, especially in the last 20 seconds, but couldn’t find the finishing touch.

* * *

The Everett v. Kennedy semifinal is under way. Should be a dandy. The Lancers from Burien are my top-ranked team right now and the Seagulls were my preseason No. 1 and have been playing their best soccer of late.

7th minute. Everett 1-0 — GOAL! On a free kick by Valerie Stahl along the right side, Annie Sittauer collects the ball and buries it past the goalkeeper for the score. Sittauer is a commanding target in the area and Everett, I’m sure, is very thankful she’s healthy again.

13th minute, Everett 1-0 — Everett’s Valerie Stahl, the Seagulls top defender, is in the pocket of Kennedy’s Rebekah Kurle, one of if not the state’s leading scorer. Should be a great battle all game.

18th minute, Everett 1-0 — The Seagulls are controlling the run of play to this point, playing a better possession game. The Lancers will need to give Kurle some more support up top to break the EHS defense.

23rd minute, Everett 2-0 — GOAL! Kennedy has trouble clearing a cross from Sittauer and Sele Vance makes them pay, hammering home a shot from eight yards out. The Lancers haven’t likely seen an attack like this all season.

26th minute, Everett 3-0 — GOAL! Everett’s Hannah Hawkins fires in a 20-yard missile to the far post. An untouchable strike to make it 3-0. Lancers have a lot of work to do as a diving save by Chelsea Lockhart almost makes it 4-0 moments later.

31st minute, Everett 3-1 — GOAL! Everett’s pass back to the ‘keeper is illegally picked up, giving the Lancers an indirect free kick from 15 yards away. Alexa Diaz tapped the ball to Amy Holland, who hammered it hard and low past a helpless goalkeeper.

38th minute, Everett 3-1 — Death. Taxes. And people making the field-goal sign when a sailing shot goes through the uprights. Kennedy looks rejuvenated after its goal.

Halftime. Everett 3-1. — What a performance by the Seagulls. Great players all over the field. Kurle looks dangerous whenever she has the ball, I’d be surprised if she doesn’t break through for one.

47th minute. Everett 3-1 — Everett is backing off or playing behind the ball. Could create some chances for Kennedy, but then again the Seagulls might tack on another.

55th minute. Everett 3-1 — Not sure if Kennedy is creating enough chances to get back in this one. But all the Lancers need is one to make things interesting.

63rd minute. Everett 3-1 — Kennedy keeps looking for another goal, but Everett is getting just as many chances.

74th minute. Everett 4-1 — Vance blasts a goal from about 25 yards out! That was UEFA Champions League quality.

FINAL. Everett 4-1 — Comprehensive victory for the Seagulls. Can they be beat in the final?
