ATM falls in 2A volleyball opener

The first-round matches in the 2A state volleyball tournament are finally done and Archbishop Murphy stumbled right out of the gate.

The Wildcats, picked by some to win the title, breezed past Grandview in their opening game, then dropped three straight.

Grandview is joined in the winner’s bracket by Burlington-Edison, Selah, Black Hills, Anacortes, Lynden, Pullman and Tumwater.

The 3A semifinal between Eastside Catholic and suprising Lakes just got started. Bishop Blanchet will play Shadle Park in the other semi, which is about 15 minutes away.

One 4A quarterfinal is under way. Skyview of Vancouver leads Marysville-Pilchuck 1-0 and has a healthy lead in game two. Kentwood and Lewis and Clark will get started in a couple of minutes. Should be interesting.
