The second round of consolation matches in the 4A state tournament are under way at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
All three KingCo 4A teams — Bothell, Issaquah and Roosevelt — have been eliminated. Bothell lost to Puyallup, 3-1, while Issaquah fell against Edmonds-Woodway and Roosevelt went down against Rogers of Puyallup (both of those matches were 3-0).
The winners of the loser-out matches in progress right now are assure of trophies. E-W leads Curtis, 2-0, while Rogers of Puyallup is up 1-0 against rival Rogers. The survivors square off at 5 p.m. to decide fifth and eighth places.
Two more loser-out bouts are on deck: Kentwood vs. Marysville Pilchuck and Monroe vs. Mead. Then those winners play at 8 p.m. in the match for fourth and seventh places.
The 4A semifinals are scheduled for 2 p.m, and they should be dynamite: Lewis and Clark vs. Skyview of Vancouver and Kamiakin of Kennewick takes on Olympia, which ended Mead’s five-year run last night. The title match is at 6:30 p.m.
I’ll be back with more and also have some 2A highlights, although if you want immediate results you should check the WIAA website as they are updating very quickly. One 2A note: Archbishop Murphy, considered the pre-tournament favorite in the state coaches’ poll, is out. The Wildcats were just elimianted by Fife, 3-2, and go home without a trophy.
