Lewis and Clark wins 4A volleyball

Lewis and Clark of Spokane lived up to its No. 1 billing in the Class 4A state volleyball tournament, beating No. 4 of Kamiakin of Kennewick for the championship after finishing second the previous two years.

There was little doubt from start to finish. Game scores were 25-12, 25-20, 25-22. The Tigers finish the season 27-1, winning their final 26 after an early loss to Mead — a team they later beat three times.

It was also a fine campaign by Kamiakin (33-5), which previously had never finished higher than sixth.

Curtis of University Place beat Puyallup to claim the fifth-place trophy — two steps up from last year’s finish. Puyallup wound up eighth.

The final two trophy matches are taking place now — Kentwood vs. Mead for fourth-seventh and Olympia vs. Skyview for third-sixth. Check back for those results.

The 2A championship match is still in progress. Tumwater leads Selah 2-1.
