Due to today’s bus accident involving Bellevue football players, the 3A championship game at the Tacoma Dome has been postponed until 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, changing places with the 4A title contest. The 4A final will be Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m., which originally was the 3A slot.
Mike Colbrese, executvie director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, said he and other WIAA staff members made the decision today after the semifinal between Bellevue and Capital was postoned until Monday night at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood, a Tacoma suburb. A former basketball official, Colbrese likened the move to dealing with an “inadvertant whistle” during a basketball game.
“It’s not a perfect situation,” he said. “You just try to make it as fair as you can.”
The Tacoma Dome is not available Monday night, Colbrese said, due to Sunday’s AC/DC concert. He said the facility would not be “football ready” until Wednesday. Preparations for the concert also meant there could be no 7 p.m. football game tomorrow night. The last football semifinal in the Tacoma Dome tomorrow starts at 4 p.m.
