Basketball is back

We will be releasing our preseason basketball rankings tomorrow, but even before we do, a pair of teams in consideration will be playing tonight, when O’Dea goes to Seattle Prep for an important Metro League game. The Irish have one of the state’s best guards in Dominic Ballard, and the Panthers return multi-tool talent Patrick Nyeko, and both teams have talented underclassmen.

Here’s a few more games to look for this week:

BOYS

-Wednesday: Ballard at Mercer Island, 8 p.m. Ballard could be one of the surprise teams in 4A this season, but what I’d really like to see is how how Mercer Island looks after losing all those seniors from last year’s KingCo 3A championship team.

-Thursday: Bellevue vs. Newport, 7 p.m. and Renton vs. Bellevue Christian, 8:30 p.m. at Bellevue High School. Bellevue and Renton figure to be state contenders in Class 3A, Bellevue Christian is always dominant in 1A and Newport moves to 4A with scorer Richard Woodworth.

-Friday: Issaquah at Bainbridge, 8 p.m. Issaquah, with first-year coach Jeff Altchech, tries to stop Seattle-U bound center Ben Eisenhardt.

GIRLS

-Wednesday: Auburn Riverside at Snohomish, 7:30 p.m. These will likley be two of the top three teams in Class 4A in our preseason rankings.
