Lynden 35, Prosser 34 FINAL 2OT

Sorry for the postponed updates. As you can imagine, a crazy finish had me preoccupied for a while.

FINAL — Another absolutely fantastic game here at the Dome. Two traditional powers battling til the very end.

2nd OT — Lynden goes first and powers its way to the goal line. Gaylord finishes it with a 1-yd run. Prosser matches the touchdown with a 10-yd strike to Moore.

The Mustangs elect to go for two and Durbin can’t find a receiver as he rolls right. His desperation flip to the endzone is knocked down!

1st OT — Prosser goes first and scores on a 4th down pass! Durbin to Matt Young for 23 yards. Lynden matches it with a 5-yd TD pass from Hastings to Bomber.

Final of regulation — Prosser gets as deep as the 30 on the final drive of regulation. Instead of trying a 47-yd FG, the Mustangs throw one to the endzone that’s intercepted.

0:53 left in 4th — The Lions tie it with a 4-yd TD run by David Gaylord. An up-for-grabs catch by Jordan Weeks for 41 yards was the huge play. Hastings finds a wide-open Gaylord for the two-point conversion.

1:28 left in 4th — Onside kick gets a perfect bounce and the Lions recover! Jace Baxter-Bowen rose high to grab the Joel Brown kick.

1:31 left in 4th — The Lions fly down the field. Hastings completes 3-4 passes, one on a great hook-and-ladder and eventually finds Ryan Seto for an 18-yd TD.

2:22 left in 4th — The Mustangs keep it on the ground to kill some clock, but strike big over the top on a 38-yd TD pass to Kirby Moore, his second on the day.

5:45 left in 4th — Prosser gets big fourth-down stop to kill Lynden drive at the Prosser 38 yard line.

9:20 left in 4th — Lions get stop. Lynden had potential TD bounce off WR’s fingertips. Then Kirby Moore gets INT one play later. But Lynden forces another three and out and takes over at own 11.

End of 3rd — Prosser driving around midfield. The Lions defense has really stepped up after first couple drives. I have Kirby Moore at 9 receptions, which would tie him for the state record for catches in a season. That’s unofficial though.

2:48 left in 3rd — A three-and-out for each team and Prosser takes over at own 6 after great punt.

6:59 left in 3rd — Lions roar down the field on the second half’s first possession. Power running by RB David Gaylord and QB Jordan Hastings. Drive capped by 12-yd TD pass from Hastings to Ryan Seto.

Halftime — Lynden gets inside Prosser 25 on the last two drives of the half, but like Issaquah last night, has nothing to show for it.

The game looked like it could be a rout early with the Mustangs pass offense looking invincible, but the Lions calmed down after a rough start and kept Prosser scoreless on its last two possessions.

Kirby Moore had no catches in the second quarter, but still has six catches for 143 yds and a TD (unofficially). I have Jordan Durbin 10-for-14 passing for 164 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTs.

4:06 left in 2nd — Lynden starts at own four-yard line and drives to the Prosser 20. But a 4th down pass falls incomplete and the Mustangs take over. Lions offense showed a little life, but will need something from its defense now.

9:38 left in 2nd — Lions get big stop on fourth and goal and takeover from own 6. Durbin had completed six passes in a row before two incompletions in red zone. Lions need something on this drive.

End of 1st qtr — A dominant showing by Prosser here. Kirby Moore continues his record-breaking year with 6 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. He looks unstoppable.

4:15 left in 1st — Mustangs go 96 yards in seven plays. Capped by a 51-yard catch-and-run touchdown for Kirby Moore. His 31st TD of the season, 93rd of his career.

7:00 left in 1st — Mustangs get big 4th down stop inside own five-yard line after a huge kick-off return by Blair Bomber started Lynden’s drive at the 14.

9:28 left in 1st — Jordan Durbin takes Mustangs down field completing 4-6 passes, three to Kirby Moore. Dylan Bolt seals it with 1-yd TD run.

Great crowds here to cheer on two great teams. It seems each game so far at the Gridiron Classic has been, well, a classic.

Hopefully we see the same again here in the 2A game.
