Down’s Syndrome can’t stop Patrick Thibodeau

A great high school story introduces us to Patrick Thibodeau, a senior at Greely High in Cumberland Center, Maine. Video courtesy of WCSH6.com.

Thibodeau has Down’s Syndrome and serves as team manager for the boys basketball team. Along with his managerial duty, he often practices with the team. He never played in a game until one special night, Senior Night. On Tuesday, Thibodeau was entered into the starting lineup and made his presence felt with a three-pointer on his second shot.

With one minute left in the game and a Greely victory in hand, the crowd chanted for his return. Just seconds before the game was over, Thibodeau hit another three-pointer. With the support of his team and community, Thibodeau was carried off the court by his teammates.

Making the story extra special, Patrick’s father and one of the team’s assistant coaches, Perry Thibodeau, was released from the hospital early after suffering a stroke, just so he could watch his son play. What a night.
