Girls basketball rankings

Here are the latest girls basketball rankings, and with playoffs heating up this week I’ve got a question for you: Do you have an upset special for me?

And here’s another one: What games are you most excited about seeing this week?

I’ll be covering state wrestling this weekend, so I’ll miss out on some games I’d really like to see — like 3A No. 1 Kennedy vs. No. 5 White River Saturday in the SPSL/Seamount sub-district tournament. The Lancers need a good test and this should be one. White River’s lone loss has been to No. 4 Bainbridge.

That Metro League tournament should be something. Check out this doubleheader on Tuesday — No. 3 Franklin against Lakeside (which knocked off No. 9 Holy Names last week) and Bainbridge against Holy Names.

In the West Central 4A District tourney, we could see No. 6 Federal Way against No. 9 Bellarmine Prep Friday, if both win their openers on Wednesday. Can anyone in that tournament beat No. 2 Kentwood? I’m doubting it at this point, but we’ll see.

With all the beating up on each other that the KingCo 4A teams have done this season, it will be interesting to see who gets hot (and stays hot) at the right time.

A couple of quick notes — Mead drops in the 4A rankings after losing to Lewis and Clark and Shadle Park last week (both very good, but remember Shadle is 3A); West Valley of Yakima slips in 3A after taking a 75-34 whipping from 4A Walla Walla; and watch out for red-hit Mount Si in the KingCo 3A tourney as the Wildcats recently tripped up Mercer Island (ranked No. 10 in last week’s 3A AP poll) to extend their win streak to six.
