Final girls basketball rankings

I hope you all are as excited about this week’s Class 4A state girls basketball tournament as I am. It’s a great tournament field and no one has a lock on the title.

Below are the final rankings for 2008-09 (I don’t think we’ll be updating 3A after this week). We’ll see how close they are to the real deal (of course, because of the way the brackets are set up, it’s impossible for them to play out. For instance, No. 1 Pasco and No. 2 Kentwood could meet in the quarterfinals and the loser of that one can finish no higher than fourth.

I’m anxious to get your feedback. For the record, I think Kentwood is the best team in the state with a healthy Lindsey Moore. But without her their chances of winning four straight tournament games aren’t nearly as good. And even if she is able to play with that hamstring injury, she isn’t likely to be at full strength.

Of the top-10 4A teams, only Mead didn’t qualify for state. Teams from East of the mountains have just three berths, which is unfortunate. I’m pretty sure Mead is better than some of the teams who will be there.

I hope to see a great turnout at the Tacoma Dome. And if you aren’t there Friday night, I hope you are at that 3A game between No. 1 Kennedy and No. 2 Prairie, which should be a great one and a possible preview of the 3A state championship game.
