FINAL — Federal Way boys 66, Redmond 36

FINAL — Federal Way advances to the quarterfinals with a 66-36 win against Redmond. The Eagles will play the winner of our next game: Beamer v. Walla Walla.

2:53 left in the 4th — Jaleel Williams punctuates the win with a huge alley-oop dunk. This one is just about in the books. FW 58-31.

3:45 left in the 4th — Hale goes to the line for FW. Can’t imagine the starters will be in much longer. Eagles lead 56-29.

5:24 left in the 4th qtr — Another turnover leads to some frustration for Redmond. Surely not the first team to feel that way against the Eagles this season. FW leads 52-29.

End of third qtr — Federal Way leads 50-27.

2:12 left in the 3rd qtr — FW misses 3 of 4 free throws, but it might be too little, too late for the Mustangs. Eagles lead 48-27.

5:49 left in the 3rd qtr — Cole Dickerson scores two buckets for FW out of the break. Eagles up 43-21.

Halftime — Some stats for you numbers folk. FW closed the half on a 34-8 run. FW shot 13-30 FG (43.3%) and 6-9 from behind the arc. Michael Hale III and Jeffrey Forbes each have 8 points. Hale also has 4 assists and 2 steals.

Jared Alexander leads Redmond with 9 points and 4 rebounds. The Mustangs shot 7-13 FG (53.8%).

FW won the turnover battle 12-2, has 7 steals as a team and scored 19 points off turnovers.

Halftime — Here’s a halftime score from the girls side. Snohomish up big against Bellarmine Prep 33-12.

Halftime — Top-ranked Federal Way is cruising and leads Redmond 37-16.

0:43.0 left in the 2nd qtr — The Redmond crowd is trying everything it can to keep the Mustangs in the game, but FW is too strong. Andre Barrington hits a three-pointer then turns a steal into a lay-up. FW leads 37-15.

2:48 left in the 2nd qtr — Michael Hale III, the smallest guy on the court, drives the lane and finishes twice in traffic. Eagles up 29-15.

4:02 left in the 2nd qtr — We have a Lorenzo Romar sighting as the University of Washington mens basketball coach pays the state tournament a visit. FW leads 24-13.

5:18 left in the 2nd qtr — A steal by Michael Hale III springs a breakaway lay-up for Andre Barrington. FW has its biggest lead at 20-12.

End of 1st qtr — The Eagles closed the quarter on a 14-2 run and lead Redmond 17-10.

2:25 left in the 1st qtr — Before you know it, the Mustangs lead is gone. A three-pointer by Isiah Umipig gives FW a 11-10 lead.

5:02 left in the 1st qtr — Behind six points from Jared Alexander, Redmond has raced out to a 8-3 lead.

BOYS: Inglemoor nips Roosevelt 42-40; Kentridge over Mariner 65-50.

GIRLS: Auburn Riverside beat Eastlake 48-30; Moses Lake defeated South Kitsap 51-38.

Pregame — The top-ranked Eagles of Federal Way — who finished second in this tournament last year — will tip off with the Redmond Mustangs in about 20 minutes.
