FINAL — Garfield boys 54, Lake Stevens 39

FINAL — The Bulldogs win 54-39 and will play Gonzaga Prep in the late quarterfinal Thursday night.

0:33.9 left in 4th — Lake Stevens is fouling now. The win will have to wait a bit. It’s 53-39 Garfield.

1:33 left in 4th — Garfield is dribbling out the seconds of this first round win. Lake Stevens gave them all they wanted in the first three quarters. It’s 51-37.

3:24 left in 4th — Jaron Cox is a long jumper for Garfield, who has taken control of this game. Bulldogs lead 49-33.

5:43 left in 4th — A three-pointer by Christian Blanks pushes the lead to 16 and shots are starting to fall for the Bulldogs, they lead 45-29.

6:39 left in 4th — Count the basket and a foul. De’Andre Taylor has taken over to start the final quarter. It’s 40-29 Bulldogs.

7:17 left in 4th — De’Andre Taylor with a twisting, contested lay-up in the lane to push the lead to 38-29.

End of 3rd qtr — Garfield leads 36-29.

1:01 3rd qtr — Des’Juan Newton with a layup ends a long Garfield drought. Then Salim Gloyd hits a jumper. A quick Bulldogs spurt has their lead at 34-27.

3:44 3rd qtr — A putback by LS forward Shane Kaska has the lead to one. GHS promptly turns it over on the other end, but leads 28-27.

4:53 3rd qtr — A no-look pass from Wroten goes out of bounds and Garfield takes a timeout. Lake Stevens has cut the lead to 26-23.

6:38 3rd qtr — Stickney continues to muscle his way inside and earns a trip to the line. He makes both. Garfield leads 26-21.

Halftime — An update from the girls side. The Federal Way girls led Lewis and Clark 43-35 towards the start of the 4th qtr.

Halftime — Lake Stevens closes the half on a 5-0 run. Garfield still leads 24-19.

1:49 2nd qtr — Stickney is a force inside for Lake Stevens, but Garfield is getting into a rhythm now. A transition lay-up for Wroten forces a timeout. It’s 24-14 Bulldogs.

3:29 2nd qtr — It’s still a struggle for both teams offensively. It’s 16-12 Garfield.

5:14 2nd qtr — Sean Stickney hits two jumpers in a row for the Vikings to cut the lead to 14-10.

6:28 2nd qtr — A Vikings turnover turns into a lay-up for Des’Juan Newton and Lake Stevens calls timeout. Garfield up 14-6.

6:52 2nd qtr — The shots still aren’t falling for the Bulldogs, but they are getting good defense and rebounding from 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Salim Gloyd. Still 12-6 Garfield.

End of 1st qtr — Garfield closes the quarter on a 7-0 run and leads 12-6.

1:23 1st qtr — De’Andre Taylor and Salim Gloyd with baskets for the Bulldogs, they lead 10-6.

2:42 1st qtr — More turnovers, fouls and missed shots for both teams. Maybe it’s the late start. Still 6-6.

3:41 1st qtr — Garfield can’t make any shot, from the field, from the line. We’re tied at 6-6.

4:50 1st qtr — Wroten just picked up with second foul and heads to the bench. TJ Dodge drains a couple FTs to give the Vikings a 6-5 lead.

5:45 1st qtr — Shane Kaska gives LS a temporary lead with a lay-up, but Bulldogs Wilson Platt gets it back with a putback. 3-2 Garfield.

6:36 1st qtr — Both teams off to a shaky start. Tony Wroten split a pair of FTs and Garfield leads 1-0.
