Filling in the 3A boys bracket

When you get to the Class 3A state tournament, it’s never a bad idea to pick the Sea-King District. That district has won 11 of the past 12 titles, and 14 of the past 16 (almost all of them from the Metro League). So it’s no surprise that this year, the two favorites are also from that district: Franklin and Bellevue.

Franklin’s ranked in the top 25 in the country, and Bellevue has just one loss to a Washington team all season — to Franklin. As I take my stab at filling out this Class 3A bracket, I can’t help but think the teams will meet again on Saturday night. Here’s how I filled it out:

Quarterfinals:

Franklin over Seattle Prep, Meadowdale over Enumclaw, Bellevue over Union, Rainier Beach over Columbia River.

Semifinals:

Franklin. over Meadowdale, Bellevue over Rainier Beach (I’m thinking OT here).

Championship:

Franklin over Bellevue, 57-52.

Championship games can get sloppy, but these two teams have the best shot at delivering a classic on Saturday night. Franklin has the tournament’s best player, its best 8-man rotation and a state champion coach in Jason Kerr. Bellevue has perhaps the best three-man combination from either the 4A or 3A tournaments, and both teams have a lot of experience.

It should be fun. Four more days of basketball are about to begin.
