Saturday morning afternoon stars

A little bit of a slow start to the weekend, but here we go…

1. Diamond standouts. If I’m reading the highlights on our website accurately, it appears as though Juanita’s Kylie Sparks threw a 7-inning perfect game with 13 K’s and advanced to 10-1 on the year in a 9-0 win against Mount Si. Also, Lynnwood’s Karl Rodriguez went 4-for-4, with four runs, three RBI and a home run to lead surprising Royals to another win — they are 9-4 and have won seven of their last eight games.

2. Goals abound. Highline’s Umelo Ugwoaba and Mountlake Terrace freshman Jonathan Alvarez each had hat tricks Friday night. Marysville-Pilchuck leading scorer John Crenshaw added a brace (that’s how soccer savants call a two-goal performance) in a win against Arlington. Crenshaw now has 14 goals on the season for the unbeaten Tomahawks.

3. Lacrosse studs. We try to be an equal opportunity feature with the morning stars, so kudos to Olivia Hull (Roosevelt) and Caroline Mahoney (Mercer Island) who led all scorers with eight goals apiece. Jordan Goldstein (Issaquah) and Landon Carr (Curtis) led boys scorers with five each.
