It’s been an interesting week in softball across the state. Previously unbeaten Stanwood lost twice (Marysville-Pilchuck and Monroe, the latter in part due to six errors) and falls from No. 2 to No. 8. Stadium of Tacoma suffered its second loss of the season, to pesky Wilson (which won yet another Narrows League title), so the Tigers are out and the Rams are in at No. 6.
The merry-go-round known as KingCo 4A continues. Redmond lost to Newport, but beat Issaquah twice. Someone (at least one) from KingCo deserves to be in the 4A rankings, so red-hot Woodinville — riding an eight-game win streak — gets the nod at No. 10.
There is some other jockeying as well, so check it out.
In 3A, former-No. 3 Bainbridge stumbled twice, once to Central Kitsap (a quality 4A team) and once to Holy Names. So Holy Names leapfrogs to No. 4 (despite a loss to Bishop Blanchet, followed by three victories) and the Spartans slip to No. 6.
Kennedy continues to struggle a bit, losing a nonleague game last week to Wilson, 10-0. It will be interesting to hear how the Lancers fared today against No. 10 Enumclaw and possibly top-ranked Bonney Lake (if both teams won).
This probably will be the final week of rankings, although I am reserving the right to revise one last time next Monday, when we get down to the final 16 (where baseball and soccer are right now). At the very least, I will put together some power rankings heading into state.
There will be some great district tournaments this weekend, so take your pick. I am hoping to be at the West Central 4A and 3A events at Sprinker Recreation Center in Spanaway to get a first-hand look at both No. 1 teams.
