Any thoughts on Tuesday’s first-round games? Besides how awesome the Times’ coverage was — having a presence at all eight local state games and providing live Twitter updates.

How about the strong showing from KingCo 4A? Woodinville upsets the defending state champion Bellarmine Prep. Issaquah takes down No. 5 Rogers of Puyallup and Roosevelt took South Kitsap (another ranked Narrows League team) to a shootout.

District 3 (SPSL 4A and Narrows) only has two teams left: South Kitsap and Stadium. That’s less than the WesCo, which advanced all its teams: Marysville-Pilchuck, Snohomish and Kamiak. Hats off to a fantastic comeback by coach Garfield Scott‘s team; the Knights of Mukilteo scored two goals in the last three minutes of regulation to tie No. 8 Mead 4-4 and then won in a shootout after making the longest trip of the day to Spokane.

In the 3A ranks, Metro took a hit. Besides Seattle Prep’s surprising 4-0 win against North Kitsap, the other three teams (Lakeside, Bainbridge, Nathan Hale) all lost by a combined score of 14-0.

Each 3A first-round game Tuesday was one via shutout, which means we could have some very competitive games in these last three rounds. It appears as though the cream is rising to the top in that bracket.

It’s a shame to hear so many player could be missing in the quarterfinal round due to a club tournament in Florida — including Mount Rainier’s leading scorer Darwin Jones and a handful of Stadium players.

I think I got 5/8 of my predicted 4A first-round games right and 5/7 3A games.

How about your thoughts?
