Wednesday Morning Stars (state soccer edition)

1. Darwin Jones, Mt. Rainier, boys soccer. By the time lightning delayed the Rams’ tournament opener against Lakeside, Jones had already scored both goals in a 2-0 victory. The Rams will have to beat No. 1 Mercer Island without him, our own Sandy Ringer reported last night. He will be in Florida for a club soccer event.

2. Kyle Bluhm, Marysville-Pilchuck, boys soccer. Bluhm, the Tommies’ goalkeeper, saved three penalty kicks in a shootout to allow Marysville-Pilchuck to beat Gig Harbor 2-1 in a shootout. The undefeated Tommies host Issaquah at 1 p.m. Saturday.

3. Gabe Gonzales, Woodinville, boys soccer. In the 58th minute, Gonzalez scored his third goal in four games — he also had the winner in the KingCo championship game — and that was all the Falcons needed to beat the defending state champion, Bellarmine Prep, 1-0.
