Friday Morning Stars

1. Bryce Borer, Mercer Island, track. Borer became the first repeat champion of the track and field championships when he vaulted 15-3 to claim his second Class 3A title in the pole vault.

2. Katrina Hegge, Seattle Prep, girls golf. Hegge shot a steady 72 to claim the Class 3A girls golf championship by five strokes. Foster’s Mallory Kent took second.

3. Kevin Penner, Eastlake, boys golf. It wasn’t easy, but Penner survived a three-player playoff to take the Class 4A boys golf title, his second in three years. Penner shot a three-over 75 to finish the 36-hole tournament at one under. That tied him with two Snohomish players, Michael Jaeger and Dylan Stensland, and Penner won the first playoff hole.
