Coming off a tough nonleague loss to Puyallup, Kennedy Catholic wants nothing more to get back out on the football field for another game.
But the Lancers are idle this weekend because Tyee has to forfeit due to a lack of eligible players.
By the way, you’ve no-doubt noticed I’ve called the team Kennedy Catholic. We received a press release from the school this week stating it has official changed its name to John F. Kennedy Catholic High School. So, we will respect that, at least on first reference (much like Bishop Blanchet and Eastside Catholic).
Football coach Bob Bourgette said his players are anxious to play again.
“We are stuck, and it’s horrible,” he said. “The kids just want another game.”
Instead, they are getting extra practice time, which Bourgette admits can be a good thing.
“This is a great teaching time for us,” he said.
The Lancers’ next game won’t be until Saturday, Sept. 19, against Evergreen. Evergreen forfeited its opening game to Hazen (also a lack of eligible players), but will have about 20 available for tonight’s Seamount League contest with Mount Rainier, according to coach David Lewis.
