State volleyball rankings: Week 2

It was an intersting week of prep volleyball, that’s for sure. Two particular things stood out for me — Graham-Kapowsin seems to be as good as advertised and jumps into the 4A rankings at No. 7, and Issaquah is going to struggle with or without their setter if they don’t start passing better. But I’m giving Issy one more week in the top-10, although they slide from No. 3 to No. 10 with the losses to Kentwood and No. 2 Curtis.

I debated about putting somone else in there — like Kentwood. But that would mean having four SPSL teams in the top-10, and right now that’s too many. Sorry, Conquerors

Lewis and Clark of Spokane, which was No. 5 to start, drops out for the moment after losing to both No. 1 Mead (no shame there) and University. And Kamiakin of Kennewick (second last year) falls out after losing to Eisenhower of Yakima, which takes the No. 9 spot.

Not much changes in 3A. Seattle Prep solidified its top-three spot by winning the Adidas Invitational at Auburn Mountainview on Saturday. The Panthers came from behind to beat Auburn Riverside in the semifinals and held off a tough Jackson team in the final. Jackson is now on my watch list and should have been all along.

Lakes falls from fourth to ninth after losses to Capital (now No. 7) and a good 4A Gig Harbor team. Meadowdale is out for now after losing to No. 2 Bishop Blanchet. Prairie lost to Skyview (up to No. 6 in 4A), but stays in at No. 8.

There are some more big matches this week, so we’ll see what kind of skake-up comes next Monday — and that day already should be marked on you calendar as Seattle Prep and Blanchet square off.
