If you’re heading out to Buckley for tonight’s SPSL 3A game between Lake and White River, here’s a quick update on the third-ranked Lancers.
With the addition of John Goldwire this week, they should be deadlier than ever.
Goldwire, a wide receiver and outside linebacker who has some D-I offers, had to sit out the first two games of the season for eligibility purposes.
“We’re finally at full strength,” Lakes coach Dave Miller said.
He said Goldwire will be “sprinkled in” on both sides of the ball.
Both teams are off to 2-0 starts. That’s what everyone expected of Lakes. But White River won just one game last season and was 0-8 in SPSL 3A competition, losing 49-7 to the Lancers.
Miller said he has stressed all week that this is not the same White River team as last season.
Lakes has had the tougher schedule, beating both Bonney Lake and Peninsula — two teams that could prove to be the next best in the league, although White River and Enumclaw (also 2-0) hope to have something to say about that.
Running back Teddy Cotton, another of Lakes’ D-I prospects, saw the field for the first times last week against Peninsula and rushed for 73 yards and a TD on 10 carries.
