State girls soccer rankings: week five

There was a bit of a shakeup in the rankings this week. Down in the Narrows League, unbeaten South Kitsap beat No. 2 Bellarmine Prep 2-0. The big upset forced some movement.

All four ranked KingCo 4A teams (Skyline, Issaquah, Eastlake, Woodinville) had perfect weeks in league, and Emerald Ridge and Jackson continue to have strong campaigns and move up.

On the east side of the mountains, undefeated Richland lost its first game of the year, but to a strong West Valley of Yakima team, so the Bombers cling to the last spot in the top 10.

SPSL 4A continues to provide numerous candidates for the rankings, and half of the bubble spots are owned by that league.

Over in 3A, No. 3 Mount Spokane suffered its first loss of the year to a 4A team and takes a tumble. Union had a strong week in beating Prairie and Columbia River, two of the stronger teams down south.

Metro continues to be a fun mess to track. Holy Names beat Lakeside 2-0 and enters the rankings. Four of the Mountain Division’s six teams are either ranked or on the bubble.

In both classifications, it was hard to trim the list – more difficult than usual. Some strong teams up north and south just missed the cut.

If you notice any inaccurate win-loss records, please let me know. Records are compiled by coach reports, media reports and the WIAA website.
