Jackson cross country ranked No. 1 nationally

When Washington state boys cross country squads earn No. 1 national rankings, they have tended to reside in the running mecca of Spokane. But that trend has shifted to Mill Creek, where the Jackson Timberwolves are atop the 2009 MileSplit Fab-15 Cross Country Rankings.

They were previously ranked eighth, before winning the prestigious Sunfair Run on Saturday in Yakima.

In an astonishing performance resulting in a head-turning invitational score of 13 points, four Timberwolves swept flights 2-5: senior Chris Knakal, senior Connor Frederickson, senior Nathan Calacat and sophomore Blake Nelson. In addition, senior Mitchell Briggs placed fifth in flight 7 (the top flight) while juniors Sean Roe (flight 6) and Grant Grosvenor (flight 1) finished second.

Jackson is also ranked fifth in the DyeStat Elite/ESPN RISE FAB 50.

On the girls side, Glacier Peak is seventh in the MileSplit poll and 24th in the DyeStat Elite/ESPN RISE poll, which also includes Eastlake at 36th.
