State girls soccer rankings: week six

Only a few weeks remain in the regular season and things are still more cluttered than I ever expected them to be.

In the 4A classification, one of the top teams went down when No. 2 Mead lost to 3A power Mount Spokane. The rankings are so competitive that teams are eager to jump up whenever they can.

The big game this week matches No. 4 Eastlake and No. 5 Issaquah on Tuesday. Each has one loss in league play, both at the hands of No. 1 Skyline.

I did bump Emerald Ridge up a bit to No. 3. The Jaguars are 10-0-0 and play in a very competitive SPSL South Division and have beat Beamer (state runners-up a couple years ago) twice already this season.

The bubble welcome a couple new teams, including the return of Lake Stevens, which has been on good form of late.

In the 3A ranks, the aforementioned Mount Spokane moves up a bit after its big win. A couple new teams enter the top 10 also, in Seattle Prep and Bonney Lake — each teams that have been ranked previously in the season.

In the six-team Metro Mountain Division, the last-place teams (Bainbridge and Eastside Catholic, 1-2-2) are just one game behind the first-place teams (Seattle Prep and Holy Names, 2-1-2). The two other teams, Lakeside and Bishop Blanchet are 2-2-1. The only way I can hope to sort it out is through overall division record, Seattle Prep being a hot team now (5-0-2 since Sept. 22).

Thursday’s Prep v. Holy Names game should be one to watch, if each team survives Tuesday…

If you notice any inaccurate win-loss records, please let me know. Records are compiled by coach reports, media reports and the WIAA website.
