Fourth-ranked Jackson, like No. 8 Marysville-Pilchuck (8-0, 5-0) in the North, has won 11 straight league games and is seeking back-to-back seasons with undefeated league records. Here are some tidbits from the Timberwolves’ 27-17 Homecoming win over Mountlake Terrace on Friday.
(On the effect of not having injured senior star Riley Carr):
“Obviously we miss him, but I don’t think that’s the answer to what you saw here tonight,” Jackson coach Joel Vincent said. “I think you saw a well-prepared Mountlake Terrace team. They were gritty, I thought they were well-coached, they were physical and they gave us some offensive alignments that gave us trouble.”
- For the first time this year, Jackson senior quarterback Andy Gay (16 touchdowns) didn’t throw a touchdown pass.
- Senior Taylor Mead averaged 53 yards on three kickoff returns, including an 87-yard touchdown to open the second half.
- Senior Jake White, who had to play out of position on both sides of the ball Friday due to Jackson’s injury situation, dominated the fourth quarter with a sack and a fumble recovery.
- It looks like the Timberwolves have found a running back for the next couple years. Sophomore Trai Patrick has rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns the past two weeks.
