Austin Denton, the state’s leading rusher, is questionable for Marysville-Pilchuck’s first-round game Friday at Auburn.
He suffered a high ankle sprain in Saturday’s 49-24 qualifying-round win over Graham-Kapowsin.
“My foot got caught in the turf, it was so painful,” said the 5-10, 205-pound senior, whose foot is in a splint.
Denton (2,055 yards) has undergone an array of physical therapy since then, and as of this afternoon his ankle is “feeling a lot better.” He said that the earliest he could practice would be tomorrow.
As for the game pitting his seventh-ranked Tomahawks (10-0) and the No. 3 Trojans (10-0), Denton said he wants to play “so bad” and won’t know his status until later in the week. But this is optimistic, considering the fact that earlier in the week he and coach Brandon Carson both considered him doubtful.
I’ll have more on Denton and his historic season in Thursday’s prep notebook.
